At present, a celebrant-led wedding in England and Wales is not legally binding. The legal formalities must be completed by an authorised person – such as a church minister, another recognised religious leader, or a registrar.

While registrars can conduct weddings in licensed venues like hotels, they are restricted in terms of what they can say, how long they can stay, and even the exact location (sometimes right down to a specific room) where the ceremony takes place.

Because of these limitations, many couples choose to handle the legal paperwork with a simple ceremony at the registry office, then celebrate their wedding with a personalised, celebrant-led ceremony – either later that day or on another date. This approach offers complete freedom over the location, style, and wording of the ceremony, ensuring every moment reflects your love and personality.

While every celebration and ceremony is different the starting points and ranges for the most common type of service are below.

• • Naming and family celebrations start at £350 with the average cost of  celebrancy for a medium sized event being around £550
  • Weddings and vow renewals are priced from £650 with a full dress rehearsal priced at £1600.
  • My standard fee for a simple funeral service is £250, and the average cost of a celebrancy for a more tailored funeral or memorial service is around £400. In common with the rest of the funeral Industry, I do not charge for leading the funeral of a baby, child or young person under the age of 18.
  • Personal bereavement, grief or farewell rituals can be tailored to your budget, with a minimum fee of £150 for a one hour ceremony.
  • Career Transitions and Retirement events are priced from £450.
  • A Celebration of Life before death, which brings together the ceremony and the future funeral service, is available from £450, creating a personal and respectful farewell.

In the immediate days after losing someone, it can be overwhelming to even consider the different options available. That’s why many funerals in the UK take place at a crematorium, or – if the person or their family had strong ties to a faith – in a church or other place of worship. These are the formats most of us know best.

However, there are many other possibilities that might feel more meaningful for your family or better reflect the life and personality of your loved one.

As long as the person’s body is treated with care and respect, you have complete freedom to decide how, where, and even whether to hold a funeral. Some families choose a simple cremation with no mourners present, followed later by a memorial service or remembrance gathering at a time that feels right. Others may prefer a burial in a natural setting – or even on private land, provided certain conditions are met.

Whatever your choice, my role is to ensure the occasion is special, personal, and a fitting tribute in every way. I would be honoured to discuss your wishes with you, without any obligation.

Many people think of a naming ceremony as simply a non-religious version of a christening – and in some cases, it can be exactly that.

However, as with all celebrant-led services, a naming or transition ceremony can be entirely your own creation – held wherever, whenever, and however you wish.

It might be a joyful welcome for a new baby; a celebration of an older child or a group of siblings; a special moment to mark the blending of two families (perhaps alongside a wedding); a name change as part of a gender transition; the ending of a marriage with a return to a former name or the adoption of a new one; or any other life transition you wish to honour – whether privately or surrounded by loved ones.

The shape of the ceremony is entirely up to you. It could include promises from family and friends to offer their love and support; a ritual to acknowledge a passage from one identity to another; or a gentle act of release to honour and let go of the past.

Whatever your story, I will work with you to tell it in a way that feels authentic, meaningful, and uniquely yours.

Absolutely! One of the great privileges of being a civil celebrant is the freedom to create ceremonies without being restricted by the rules of any particular faith or the legal limitations of a registrar.

I also bring my own rich life experience to my work. My formative years were spent both in the UK and abroad, and my family’s story is woven with a diverse racial and cutural heritage, blended families, neurodivergence, disability, and different kinds of bereavement – all of which have shaped my perspective and deepened my empathy.
